LDS Temples:

The Bible and the LDS Temple Endowment

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.

(Isaiah 2:3, 4:5-6)

The Temple is Packed with Scriptures

The Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints continue ancient traditions.

Both modern and ancient temples contain ordinances and covenants to remind people of Jesus Christ.  The resurrection of Jesus Christ eliminated the law of moses and changed many symbols of our covenants.  However, because the reliance on Jesus Christ has not changed, the scriptures can greatly improve understanding of modern temple ceremonies.

This website is a compilation of these scriptures with links to the sources in context.

Altars and Buildings

The purpose of altars and temples as places to worship God.

Clothing

Clothing in religious ceremonies can symbolize covenants with Jesus Christ and His atonement.

Preparation

Anciently, priests were washed with water and anointed with oil, and clothed in special robes.

Baptized for the Dead

A fair and compassionate solution to the commandment for everyone to be baptized.

Creation and Garden

Both ancient and modern temples remind participants of their dependence on God, the atonement of Jesus Christ, and His commandments.

Telestial

Like the brightness of the stars, the telestial world resulted from Adam and Eve being expelled from the Garden of Eden.  To return to God, they were required to obey, sacrifice, and to remember the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Terrestrial

Like the moon in glory, the terrestrial glory includes treating others with love and respect.

Celestial

Celestial glory parallels the sun and represents life with God.  Living this glory includes marriage, family, sharing blessings with everyone, and communion with God.

Sealing

Husbands and wives and children are sealed to each other with the promise they can remain connected forever.
